Adam Sparkles - January 2008 Mix
Adam Sparkles, January 2008 mix (YSI link) (Sendspace link) tracklisting in comments
I know a lot of mixes come my way, it can get overwhelming. It takes something special to get my attention and this new mix by Adam Sparkles is special. For those that don't know, Sparkles is a Philadelphia DJ connected to the RVNG crowd, spins mainly at the Making Time and [click.] parties with Dave P, Julian S. Process and crew. He's teamed up with Dave P to put out some phenomenal remixes for Bloc Party, Klaxons, The Whip and Holy Hail, with a Simian Mobile Disco one coming up. He bring the acid or hDude should be a much bigger name, in my opinion, and I hope that the word will spread more now.
This January 2008 Mix will melt your faces people, like an aural LSD trip or something. He eschews the current trend of spinning banger after banger from the new rave and indie dance scenes to just create a phenomenal hour plus mix that is a listening experience. It's almost shocking to see someone try to make a mix that sounds different; this one goes from spaced-out shoegazer stuff to psychedelic folk to Brazilian rock and all sorts of things in between and far out. I really love any mix where the DJ can bring me into a whole new sound world and this one does that, introducing me to a handful of bands and songs that just aren't in my normal listening diet. While he digs deep on the experimental end of rock, Adam is able to connect that to the dance and electronic end of the spectrum throughout. It reminds me of something that the Optimo cats would put together, or even Tim Sweeney, eclectic and leftfield and gutsy. I really hope that everyone will give this a listen, one of the best mixes I've heard in awhile, great listening as the weather stays cold and you stay in.
For those of you in Philly tonight, head over to The Barbary (951 Frankford) where Adam Sparkles is the special guest for the very special return of the special Broadzilla party. This one used to rock Sal's every Thursday night, it took some time off, bulked up, increased the radness, turned the amps up to 11 and voila! Another massive Philly rager at its best new space. No cover, $1 PBRs and well drinks from 10-11, this is your new favorite party again, Philly.
After tonight, you can check out a special last-minute [click.] at Fluid next Wednesday where Dave and Adam will melt your face with nitemusik. There's also a Making Time coming up, the new party at Woody's that I need to get to ASAP. I'm not even sure if the man wants to leave the confines of Philly, but get at him on myspace and try and lure him to your city. New York, Chicago, LA, Boston, Oklahoma City, Minneapolis, let this man light up your dancefloor.
