Fabulous Pregnancy Health Fact!

Although sex was fun on the way to pregnancy many women are scared to get intimate with their significant other when they are pregnant.  This is because the women fear that the interaction of sex will harm the baby.  According to many doctors this is actually untrue unless you have a high risk pregnancy which I will explain shortly.

When the penetration from the male occurs many women will think they are hurting the baby but actually the baby is protected by the abdomen and muscular walls of the uterus. The baby is also comfortably hanging out in a comfy sac made of fluid called the amniotic sac.  As you can see your baby is well protected and has no idea of what's even going on.  The only time the doctor recommends not having sex during pregnancy is during your last few weeks of pregnancy. They recommend this because they believe the prostaglandins hormone found in semen can cause early contractions. Some doctors may disagree with this but it is better to be safe then sorry.

Reasons why your doctor may say NO to sex while pregnant:

*Please note that no sex may pertain to no arousal as well, it all depends on the high risk category you fall into. If unsure ask your doctor and he/she will explain further.*

  • You're at a high risk for miscarriage due to a miscarriage history.
  • You're at a high risk for premature labor as you received contractions before 37 weeks of pregnancy.
  • You've experienced bleeding, cramping or discharge during pregnancy without any known cause.
  • A damaged cervix.
  • Disruption in the Amniotic Sac.
  • Placenta positioned abnormally.
  • If your pregnant with twins, triplets or more.
Remember to ask your doctor any questions you have in regards to intercourse with your partner.  Once you get the ok to have intercourse go for it.

Stay Fab!
