'I'm so happy we've arrived at that place': Halle Berry reveals her relationship is now amicable with former partner Gabriel Aubry amid custody battle

By Daily Mail Reporter

Speaking out: Halle Berry, pictured here at the Halle Berry celebrity golf classic with Grey Goose at Wilshire Country Club, has spoken out for the first time about her ugly custody battle with her former partner Gabriel Aubry

As they come to the verge of a custody agreement over their three-year-old daughter Nahla, Halle Berry insists everything is now amicable between her and her former partner Gabriel Aubry.

The 44-year-old Oscar-winning actress has spoken out for the first time since her ugly custody battle began with the Canadian model.

She insists that her relationship is amicable with the 34-year-old French model, and that she is glad she chose to go through the courts for the sake of her daughter.

'When there's a child involved, it's a relief when you can resolve things in a good way. Our issues were never about fighting for her,' she told Extra.

She admits that it was when their battle came to a standoff, they needed someone to intervene.

'We both know a child needs both her parents. But what I want to say about it is sometimes, as a couple, you reach an impasse, she said.

'We need a court and a judge to help us work out some of the delicate issue.'

All good: She insists that her relationship is acromonious with the 34-year-old French model and that she is glad she chose to go through the courts for the sake of her daughter

The mother-of-one says she is happy that her and Gabriel have now set aside their differences.

'I'm so happy we've arrived at that place - because for her sake, this is the best way. We both love her more than life,' Halle said of their court proceedings.

It was just last month that Halle and Gabriel were locked in an argument over whether Nahla should travel from L.A. where Gabriel lives, to New York, where Halle was shooting her new film, New Years' Day.

Gabriel attempted to block the star from taking Nahla with her to the East coast.

Relieved: The mother-of-one says she is happy that she and Gabriel, pictured here with their daughter Nahla and Halle in 2009, are setting their differences

Sources alleged he refused Halle's offer to put him up in a hotel during a week-long shoot so he could spend time with the child.

Halle, who had publicly said she had 'serious concerns' about Gabriel's parenting, is understood to have been unwilling to leave the toddler alone in Los Angeles with her father.

TMZ reported Aubry, who was not working at the time, said: 'Why do I have to follow her? She can leave [Nahla] here.'

But in the end, Halle eventually received permission from the courts to take Nahla to New York to fulfil the work obligations.

Now the couple are in the process of finalising a custody settlement with a judge.

TMZ reported that Judge Mark Juhas said to Gabriel and his lawyers in court last week, ‘We’re making huge progress. We need to stick with it.’

They are said to be on the verge of an agreement over the visitation and custody of Nahla.

Gabriel filed his bid back in December for partial custody of Nahla.

Following the break up of the couple in April 2010, he was said to be concerned that his access to Nahla would be blocked by Halle, as nothing was agreed in writing.

But it was this very move to protect his rights that sparked the bitter war of words.

Accusations were also made that Gabriel used a racial slur against Halle and then, in a particularly nasty turn, a source claimed the model 'went nuts' when his daughter was referred to as 'black'.

In an interview which took place prior to the public feud, Halle clearly stated she regarded her daughter - who has both white and African-American heritage - to be 'black'.

She said she subscribes to the 'one-drop theory', which refers to the controversial racial classification of African-Americans that determined who was black in the US.

Halle has moved on since her split with Gabriel, and is now dating actor Olivier Martinez.

The actors met while filming Dark Tide in South Africa last year, which is yet to have a release date but is a thriller centered around a diving instructor who returns to keep waters after a near-fatal encounter with a Great White shark.

Since sparking up a romance, Halle and Olivier have been spotted looking very loved up in various cities around the world over the past few months.

Yesterday the actress was doing her bit for charity as she hosted the Halle Berry celebrity golf classic with Grey Goose at Wilshire Country Club in Los Angeles.

She hit the greens to benefit the Jenesse Center, a domestic violence intervention program which is a cause she has continously supported.

Steal her Look: Halle Berry

Guest post by professional make up artist Kemi.

Want to be red carpet ready in 20 minutes? This really does work - I actually timed myself. You might think I have used special methods or quick secret techniques - I didn't!

Halle Berry looked natural yet glamorous at The Golden Globes in February. I will show you how to achieve this simple yet stunning look so you can feel just as fabulous in less time than you would think!

What you need to do:

Prep the skin: Cleanse, tone and exfoliate if need be (using products of your choice)
Time taken: 5 minutes

Suggested products to achieve this look:

Mac Studio Fix Powder plus Foundation  (no shine at all)
Mac Studio Finish Concealer (creamy rich concealer)
Mac eye kohl pencil – ‘Smoulder’
No 7 Amazing Eyes in black
A matte eye shadow the same colour or two shades lighter than your skin
Mac Jubilee lipstick
Benefit Ultra Shines lipgloss - Life on the A list
Blush - Bobbi Brown - Flame 4 or Mac - Honour (Note - pink blush gives your face life, darker shades without shimmer are used to contour and create symmetry to the face when used under cheekbones on jaw line etc)
Benefit Brow Zings or Brows a go-go
Benefit Bad gal lash mascara

Your skin is prepared and your products are laid out. Let’s get started!

1. Halle has used a matte satin smooth finish foundation. Mac Studio Fix foundation plus powder is perfect as it gives a matte finish (no shine) yet a smooth texture for a natural look. Apply with Mac Duo Fibre brush for evened out flawless cover. If you have dark circles, creases or blemishes keep blending more powder foundation or use Mac Studio Finish concealer. Dab with fingers in the area you want to conceal - a small amount with your index finger does wonders!
Time taken – 5 minutes

2. Define & shape brows by using Benefit Brows a go-go eyebrow powder to create natural definition. It comes in a cute case with a small eyebrow brush and tweezers. For accurate sharp defined brows use a liner brush or your finger to dab concealer (1-3 shades lighter) or a shimmery gold toned shadow under the arch of the brow to create a sharp contrast.
Time taken – 2 minutes

3. Contour with matte colours 1-2 shades darker than your complexion. Contouring is the art of altering your structure or appearance to make it more symmetrical. It sounds complex but most of us do it every day when we use blush without realising! Halle has natural contouring here, but I suggest you use a pink blush like Bobbi Brown Flame 4  on the apple of the cheeks.
Time taken – 2 minutes

4. Get the natural looking smoky eye. Use shadow all over eyes, up to the brow. If you are brown or caramel skinned you can even use the Brow zings kit and the lighter shade can double up as a great matte eye shadow. The darker shade you used on the brows can also be used to define the eye socket. Do an a line shape at the corners of your eye. Now you have a base for your liner.
Time taken – 3 minutes

5. Use Mac Smoulder or No 7 Amazing Eyes pencil as both smudge well. The No7 pencil comes with smudge pen on the pencil! Line the shape of your eyes all the way around. Line your upper and lower water line. Smudge the outer lines. Blend well with shadow (repeat until you’re satisfied with the smokiness). Smudge up and outwards for a catlike pointed shape. Use an eye shadow brush if you don’t like smudging with your fingers (although I find fingers have more control). Use a lash curler and comb lashes for defined curled lashes. Finish with mascara (2 coats).
Time taken – 5 minutes

6. Nude satin lips can be achieved by using a satin textured pink lipstick of your choice (one with vitamin E or oils help). Mac does a range of lipsticks with moisturisers that have a satin finish. Benefit lipgloss in Life on the a list smells of peaches and it’s not too heavy so can be used on top of lipstick to create a velvet texture and add more intense colour to your lips.
Time taken – 2 minutes

Now start looking fabulous!

What’s Beautiful Now?

For their 20th Anniversary March 2011 issue, fashion magazine Allure surveyed 2,000 American men and women to see how beauty perceptions and preferences have changed over the past 20 years.

When they first conducted the survey in 1991, model Christie Brinkley was considered to have the ideal, all-American look with her blonde hair, blue eyes and slim figure.

Christie Brinkley

Have things changed since then? Read on to find out!

Most Beautiful Man (according to men and women)
Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Tom Cruise, Denzel Washington, Ryan Reynolds, Matthew McConaughey, Harrison Ford and Hugh Jackman.

Most Beautiful Woman (men and women)
Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry, Megan Fox, Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Julia Roberts, Sandra Bullock and Jessica Alba.

Beauty Preferences
70% of those who wish to change their skin colour wanted it to be darker – this was pronounced among women.

74% of those surveyed believe that a curvier body type is more appealing now than it has been over the past ten years.

69% of survey respondents believe there is no such thing as an "all-American look."

85% of those surveyed believe that increased diversity in America has changed what people consider beautiful.

64% think women of mixed race represent the epitome of beauty.

Racial Differences
African-American and Hispanic women are twice as likely as Caucasian women to report not wanting to change their body in any way.

African-American and Hispanic women are more likely than Caucasian women to feel they're more attractive than their significant other. (Rock on sisters!)

A third of African-American women think of themselves as the most attractive person in the room. (Gotta love that confidence!)

African-American and Hispanic men are nearly twice as likely as Caucasian men to say the butt is among the most attractive features of a woman.

African-American men are directionally more likely to embrace and aspire to curviness – they say they want curvier hips and a higher/rounder butt or a larger butt. (No surprise there!)

African-American women are least likely to be on a diet/watch their weight. (With the obesity epidemic in the US, is that a good thing?)

The Oscars: Fashion’s Big Night

The 83rd Academy Awards were held in LA last night. No big surprises re the winners – Natalie Portman won for Black Swan and The King’s Speech won 4 including the biggies Best Actor and Best Director.

Most of the actresses kept it safe in shades of red, silver and of course black. Having a celebrity wear your dress to an event as huge as the Oscars can do wonders for a designer’s career. Did you know about Elie Saab before Halle Berry wore, and won in, one of his gowns? Now he is a celebrated designer with a huge celebrity client list.

Fashion at the 2011 Golden Globes

The 2011 Golden Globe Awards were held in LA last night to recognise achievements in film and TV, and Hollywood was out in its sartorial finest.

Make up perfection!

Got a big event coming up? Then take inspiration (and in some cases don’t) from what the ladies had to offer. Considering most, if not all, of them had a team of stylists, hairdressers, make up artists etc in their arsenal, we think some could have done better!

Glee actress Amber Riley in Oliver Tolentino. The make up is a bit matchy-matchy but she looks so cute and happy we're letting it go.

Actress Gabourey Sidibe. Nice dress but the make up is unforgiveable. It isn't 1967, make up exists in various shades of brown - couldn't someone at MAC have hooked her up? Words need to be had with her stylist.

Halle Berry in Nina Ricci. Stunning as usual.

Glee actress Jenna Ushkowitz in Rebecca Taylor.

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad and over $5 million worth of jewellery!

TV presenter Shaun Robinson.

Robert De Niro and wife Grace Hightower. She looks stunning.

The lovely Blair Underwood.

Fashion at the 2010 American Music Awards

We like the AMAs. We like that they are voted for by Joe Public and not ‘industry insiders’ (who are these insiders anyway?). Judging by the winners, it seems safe to say people really, really like Justin Bieber.

As ever, the fashion didn’t disappoint. Some looked divine. Others looked... ‘interesting’ (we mean you Nicki Minaj).

Keri Hilson wore a short and backless crocodile skin Sammy B dress with House of Harlow (Nicole Ritchie's jewellery range - available at www.mywardrobe.com) gold and black bangles, Noir earrings and Francesco Sacco shoes.

Halle Berry Hairstyles

Not only is Halle Berry is a talented and beautiful actress, she can wear any type of hairstyle. She has gained national attention for her beauty and impeccable fashion sense but her hairstyles are just as show stopping.

Halle Berry jumped on the scene with a short haircut but she has since expanded and has worn a variety of haircuts since then. Her hair is beautiful when she wears it long. She has won it layered around her face to showcase her beautiful facial features. She has worn it long with bangs to frame her face. These are both very popular and easy styles to wear. The hair can be pulled back to create a more elegant updo that brings more attention to the face.

Halle Berry later showcased a type of bob haircut that was cut to about her chin. She generally wore it in beautiful tousled curls that can be maintained with a curling iron or by rolling the hair with medium to large rollers while it is wet. The hair was short but she still had enough to tuck behind the ear which created an even more dramatic effect. Bobs frame the face and are very flattering and Halle Berry looked great.

Halle Berry showcased the short hair with little curls and the great thing about the style is that she wore it wild and tousled and it looked great. Not too many people can pull off a style like that without looking disheveled. Her latest look has taken her back to the super short do that is very short, shaved at the back and longer on top. Halle Berry once again looks great with this hairstyle. What is your favorite Halle Berry hairstyle?

Halle Berry Defines Yummy Mummy, Plus Baby Pics!

Some of these are older, but I thought I'd make a Halle Berry Baby Gallery of her and Nahla Ariela. No pictures of Halle would be complete without her sexy baby daddy, Canadian partner Gabriel Aubry.
