Sir Alex Ferguson allowed Cristiano Ronaldo to spent the New Year's holidays at home on Madeira with family and friends,and to recharge his batteries before Premier League encounter with Chelsea on Jan 11.
Ronaldo recently had a series of confrontations with opponents(Middlesbrough’s Emanuel Pogatetz, Stoke City Andy Wilkinson and Tottenham’s Michael Dawson),but the short break and a change of environment idea represents a routine at Old Trafford from which the Cristiano might benefit.In the meantime, Cristiano is in the running for the 2008 FIFA World Player of the Year. On Jan. 12 winner will be announced at the Zurich Opera House.Some of thenominees to the FIFA World Player 2008 Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Lionel Messi, Fernando Torres and Xavi Hernandez......

Cristiano Ronaldo wins the “Golden Boot” award

Cristiano Ronaldo accepted the European Golden Boot award at a ceremonial in his hometown Madeira for the top scorer of the European leagues during the 2007/2008 season.
Ronaldo's wished to receive the award where he was born as a tribute to his late father Diniz Aveiro.
"With this Golden Boot I have changed football a little. Usually strikers won it and I'm a winger.When I put on the (United) shirt, I give my all. And I'm already in the history of the club," "When I play again the fans will love me again." Cristiano told La Gazzetta dello Sport afterward he received the prize at a ceremonial in his native Madeira.

Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro (Cristiano Ronaldo), is a Portuguese professional football player, who plays for Manchester United F.C. and Portugal national team, and is considered one of the finest young talents today.

Cristiano Ronaldo was born in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal to his mother Maria Dolores dos Santos Aveiro and his father José Dinis Aveiro. He grew up with a brother, Hugo, and two sisters, Elma and Katia. His second name ("Ronaldo") is relatively rare in Portugal.Named after Ronald Reagan, due to his father's respect for former US president



Cristiano Ronaldo started playing competitive football at 8-year-old for local club Andorinha. Ronaldo was then signed by local team Nacional at the age of 10 before moving to one of Portugal’s largest football clubs, Sporting Lisbon in 1996.





Cristiano Ronaldo played for Portugal’s youth side in the UEFA U-17 Championships and drew attention internationally. Manchester United made the move in 2003 to fill the void of departed David Beckham.Ronald become the most expensive teenage signing in Britain.
