Sixth Pay Commission: EJCC Calls for Pen-Down Strike on Jan 28

Srinagar, Jan 17, KONS: State government employees have called for a one-day pen-down strike on January 28 to press for their demands, including the implementation of the 6th Pay Commission recommendations and enhancement of the retirement age to 60.

The decision was announced simultaneously in Jammu and Srinagar by functionaries of the Employees Joint Consultative Committee (EJCC), a union of government employees’ organizations.

EJCC leaders, including heads of both factions of the Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC), called an emergency press conference in Jammu today accusing the state government of not fulfilling their demands despite repeated assurances, and not taking any initiative in this direction.

The union leaders said that they had held several rounds of talks with the government and on every occasion had been assured of serious dispensation of their demands, but nothing practical had been done so far.

They said that even the governor, N. N Vohra, had promised that employees’ issues would be solved once the new government took over.

“But even after the new dispensation having taken office, there has been no headway in our demands,” they said.

The five demands the employees front has put before the government include the implementation of the 6th Pay Commission recommendations, removing the pay disparities in state government employees, enhancing the retirement age to 60 from 58, increasing the wages of daily-wagers and other temporary employees, releasing COLA for public sector employees.

Calling for a pen-down strike on January 28, the employees’ leaders have threatened an indefinite shutdown thereafter if their demands are not met.

Employee leaders in Srinagar, too, have endorsed the strike call, saying that the EJAC would abide by the programme of the employees’ platform.
