Drinking Alcohol During Pregnancy....Safe????

I have seen and known of women in my generation who may drink lightly during pregnancy and wondered if this was safe or not.  I also thought to myself will I be able to do the same when I decide to become pregnant.  Well I decided to conduct research regarding this and here is what I found below.

According to a U.K. study conducted last month pregnant women who drink lightly, meaning having up to two very small alcholic drinks a week will not and are not harming their unborn babies, it is said to also help with stress.  Now this does not mean they were throwing back a Martini, instead the study showed that the alcoholic beverage would consist of a very small glass of wine,a half pint of beer or a small single measure of spirits.  The drink of choice usually being red wine as it is also good for the heart. When the study was done it showed that low levels of the alcohol I just mentioned if consumed doesn't cause social or emotional issues for the child.

In the same token the U.K. research team made it clear that women should not consume any alcohol in their first trimester as this is when the baby develops the most.  After the first trimester you may consume the light alcohol beverages but note most women who fell into the category of light drinkers only had a drink once or twice during pregnancy or at the most 1-2 per week.

Until this day the U.S. strongly suggest that women shouldn't consume any alcohol at all while pregnant.  Even though this may be the case many doctors are giving pregnant women the go ahead to have a light drink 1-2 times per week.

The end result is that you must do your research and make the right choice for you.

Ladies, were any of you light drinkers and if so how much did you drink, what was the drink of choice and were there any effects on your baby?

Stay Fab!
