Switch Remixes 2004
Faithless, "Miss You Less, See You More (Switch remix)" (YSI link)
Jentina, "French Kisses (Switch's Jack the Box remix)" (YSI link)
What better follow-up to yesterday's mix than with a few remixes from the Switch bols from the year 2004? There's no better way, dammit! I really wanted to put up this remix of Faithless' "Miss You Less See You More," as it's fucking rager. You need this in your life, trust me. It's this jackin' house track, that honestly would sound like it came out this month. The first part is a stripped down affair, as the drums really dominate, with vocals and effects over top that all conspire to have you moving unstoppably. There's a strange breakdown in the middle, where the drums and stuff leave and a few weird voices come in speaking unintelligbly (to me, at least), then BOOM! A massive bassline comes in and the boys catch you off guard for a TKO. The second half is even better, as there are a few mini-breaks that give you an extra peak or two.
The other one is also less-known, overshadowed by the Chemical Brothers remixes of the same year. Jettina's "French Kisses" gets the Switch treatment and that's obviously a good thing. It sticks to a similar format of the other remix, turning the original into a bass-heavy house tune. There's some differences, as this one seems slight off-kilter, in a good way. The bass sounds almost-wobbly at times, giving it a less straight-ahead raging sound.
One thing that both have in common is that they utilize vocals throughout. While I love the non-vocal stuff, I think that coming from a more rap-based background, it's tracks like these that speak to me the most. Anyone else have similar feelings?
