Fabulous Ways to Exercise With Your Baby!

I always tell myself, "One day when I have a baby I will bust my ass to stay in shape."  As a new mom I am sure it can be hard to find ways to incorporate a workout back into your routine but below I have fun and easy ways you can do so while still bonding with your baby.

Walk and Walk and Walk Some More- Get the baby stroller and head out for a nice long walk taking in the scenery.  You can even head to the local mall and do some shopping for you and baby.  You can also skip the stroller and use a front carrier which will give your workout an extra boost.

Join a Stroller Based Class-  This will give you the cardio workout you need while focusing on specific muscles.

Yoga and Pilates with Baby- Yoga and Pilates are both very popular exercises that help to increase flexibility and strength using your own body weight.  When your baby turns at least four months old (baby has more stability) try some mat exercises that target your abs (yes you can get those abs back in tip top shape :).)
  • Ex: Lie on your back, bend your knees and plant your feet flat on the floor, then prop the baby on your pelvis facing you (hold her under her arms). Inhale and pull your navel toward your spine; exhale and lift your bottom and back off the floor, one vertebra at a time, until you've pulled your body into a straight line from chest to knees (keeping a careful grip on your baby, of course). Inhale, then roll back down (and give her a kiss). Repeat
Dance-  Pop in your favorite songs (not to loud) and let you and baby let loose to the music.  Both you and baby will have a ball and you will burn significant calories.

Kegels- You can do these while you're nursing, singing the baby to sleep or reading the baby a book.

So ladies I hope these few tips help to give you some ideas on how you can get back into your workout routine with baby in tow.  Remember there are also many DVD's that give you more ideas on how to workout with baby.

Stay Fab!
