Specifications and Images Leaked Just Before the Launch of Sony PSP2

 

Is that the Sony PSP2 reportedly set to be unveiled in two days? The hardware certainly looks like images we've seen in the past, and the inclusion of the stylus backs up those recent rumors we've heard about a touchscreen on the device--though, frankly, I think we'd all be surprised is the thing didn't rock the old touchscreen. The console image also squares with rumors that the PSP2 will support dual analog nubs.

 

 The inclusion of the SD card and PSP2-branded memory stick are in-line with the likely rumors that such a device would abandon the proprietary UMD format that nobody outside of Sony ever really seemed to like.

 

As Kotaku (who first got ahold of the image) points out, the shot is pretty low-res, meaning that, if it did indeed come from Sony, it's likely not "official art," so much as something pulled off an internal memo.

Adds Kotaku,

The buttons and the d-pad look to be at a slightly different resolution. The copyright in the bottom left, which appears on official Sony images, is cut off, too. Likewise, odd. However, as mentioned above, this purported PSP2 image could be photo taken of official Sony art or of an official Sony handout, hence these resolution inconsistencies.

3DS Handheld Console Officially Annlounced by Nintendo - - Offers 3D Gaming Without the Need for Glasses

Nintendo is going to launch officially its upcoming 3DS handheld console today, which offers 3D gaming without the need for glasses, at an event in Amsterdam. 

 

The 3DS' screen uses a special layer that allows each of the user's eyes to see a different set of pixels, producing a stereoscopic effect. Like previous iterations of the DS, it also has a second screen, in 2D with a stylus, and WiFi internet access. 

The 3DS' stereoscopic capability is viewed as a weapon for Nintendo in its battle against gaming on smartphones, which have become more sophisticated since the launch of the highly successful original DS in 2005.

What’s the fun in playing a video game with a virtual joystick? That’s a question asked by many tablet owners out there. I know I’ve refrained from playing many joystick-enabled games on my iPad for this very reason. Thankfully companies out there like Ten One Design are looking out for us. This flexible design means that not only is it going to work with your iPad (which is the audience the company is targeting), but also pretty much any other tablet on the market. At $25 (or $40 for a pair), I’d say this is a brilliant purchase.

Nintendo 3DS: Nintendo Aims to Win Back Customers With 3D Technology

The year 2011 will ostensibly witness the game-gadget companies making something special in terms of trying to get back customers that they have, in the last few years, been losing to the makers of sophisticated smartphones, which are fast becoming popular gaming platforms for most gamers. 

Taking on the exceptional competition that the smartphone era is pronouncing for the portable gaming device makers, Nintendo will introduce its popular DS line's next model - the 3DS. The device will have a leading edge over the smartphones in the sense that it will boast three-dimensional (3D) graphics. 

According to Wedbush Securities' analyst Michael Pachter, the 3D graphics of the forthcoming Nintendo 3DS will give the company an opportunity to entice gamers the way it did with its Wii console and its motion-sensing remote wand.

Call of Duty: Black Ops: Fetched More Than £100 Million - - Declared as the UK’s Official Christmas Number One Video Game

It’s just six weeks of the official launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops. But the video game, with a sale of more than three million copies of the game in the UK, is declared as the UK’s official Christmas number one video game; as it continues to top all-format gaming charts.

The sales of more than three million copies has already fetched more than £100 million to become only the third game after Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Nintendo based Wii Fit to pass the milestone.

Macronix Will Manufacture 8GB Nintendo 3DS Cartridges - - Expected to Be Released in March 2011

It is rumoured that the cartridges for the upcoming Nintendo 3DS will have a gigantic capacity of 8GB – just under 2 DVDs or a double sided DVD.

According to the reports on Kotaku; these cartridges will be manufactured by Taiwan-based Company Macronix. On the other hand, it looks like the cartridges won’t all be used to begin with, and Nintendo will limit things to 2GB initially, as has previously been widely reported (although that’s still four times as much as the DS).

The Nintendo 3DS is expected to be released in March 2011.

Classic NEOGEO Gamepad From SNK - - Compatible With Your Modern PlayStation3

The PS3 controller feels like a well-polished piece of gaming equipement. After all, the basic design has remained mostly untouched since the original PlayStation was released back in 1994. However, despite it being a good fit for most games, SNK doesn’t think it quite stacks up against their old NEOGEO gamepad, at least not when playing games that originated on their console. Thus, they decided to release their own custom USB controller, which is PS3-compatible.

The resulting controller appears to have stayed as true to the original design as possible. The only real changes are the two triggers, an extra pair of buttons beyond the old A,B,C and D, as well as a PlayStation button. The best part is that being USB, you should be able to hook it up to your PC for some classic emulated gaming. Unfortunately you’ll need to have one of these imported from Japan, as there doesn’t appear to be any plans for a US release just yet.

Sony Ericsson PlayStation Phone, Zeus Z1: A Step Ahead to Reality - - Video Shows The Appearance Like Hybrid Xperia Smartphone And PSP Go

After lots of whispers over the months, at last Sony Ericsson has unveiled the latest and most rumoured Zeus Z1 PlayStation Phone, and there are some real and authentic photos of this new smartphone cum gaming console device. The PlayStation Phone was one of the most rumoured and speculated gadget on the web media for quite sometime, but now it has been officially revealed that this gadget does exist.

As expected from the rumours; the handset is in the appearance of a hybrid Xperia smartphone and PSP Go and is seen in the video (see after the jump) to be running Gingerbread 2.3. Other fresh rumours include an official unveiling scheduled for December 9, clarly verifying that the device is genuine and going to rock the smartphone market in this holiday season. If this were true it could be a good Christmas for Sony as the PlayStation Phone looks set to be one of its most interesting offerings for mobile phone fans and gamers alike, not least because it will be running the latest version of Android, a rarity for a smartphone with Sony on the case.
