Radio Slave - Essential Mix 04.02.2007

Radio Slave, BBC Radio One Essential Mix April 2, 2007 (YSI link) tracklisting in comments

Okay, it's time to start jumping back into the current dance music scene. I've been wanting to put this Essential Mix by Radio Slave up for a few months, really, this is the perfect time as we try to focus on all of the amazing stuff coming out of in the electronic dance scene.

Radio Slave is the main alias of Matt Edwards, one of the leading remixers in the world and the head of the Rekids record label out of the UK. He's reworked the songs of people as varied as Kylie Minogue and Nelly to Ricardo Villalobos and Tiefschwarz. He's also done work under quite a few aliases such as Matthew E, Rekid and Quiet Village. However, it's his edits and remixes that have brought him the most attention and those come under the Radio Slave banner. I've been trying to think of a way to describe his sound, a nice catchphrase that would help you know what to expect on this mix. The best I've come up with is that this is paranoiac or neurotic house. If the Switch/Dubsided/Sinden stuff is fidget, this just seems the darker, more ominous side of that. It's got bleeps and sandpaper sounds and shuffling drums and never quite seems able to let the beat go; there's also a few tunes

I'm up later here working on an article and this mix is soooo perfect for late-night listening. 2 hours of the darker side of dance music, another essential mix. Much more of Mr. Edwards in the next week or two.
