www.dpisepunjab.org - Directorate of Public Instructions Secondary Education
The Directorate of Public Instructions (Secondary Education), Punjab. The Directorate is housed in Shop-cum-Office number 95-97, Sector 17-D, Chandigarh (Union Territory), India.
The origin of this Directorate can be traced back to the year 1854. Lord Dalhousie, the then Governor General of India, during British Rule, established education department in each state on the recommendations of Charles Wood, President, Board of Control.
As the number of institutions increased and the field of education also expanded at all levels, the Directorate was bifurcated into the Directorate of Schools and Directorate of Colleges in the year 1976, to make the Department more level specific. To facilitate better and efficient administration of the organization, the directorate was further divided into Secondary Directorate-DPI(SE) and Directorate of elementary education. The DPI(SE) deals with the education from ninth to twelth class of schooling in the state and manages the affairs of Middle, High and Senior Secondary Schools under the State Government through three Circle level and twenty district level authorities.
