So it has been a week since I decided to cut beef out of my diet. I chose this route as a couple of years back I cut out pork because it doesn't break down in your body like lean food (turkey, chicken, fish) does. It can take months for pork to break down in your body which causes fat to build and contributes to cellulite. I have discovered that beef does the same and for me to fill more healthy I have now decided to cut out beef. Of course the hubby hasn't and even though we really didn't eat that much beef in my house (about 1-2x a week) it's not easy seeing him chow down a thin sliced steak but I did it and it will only get easier, I hope.
I wanted to share with you ladies the positive and negative about eating beef and leave it up to you on which route you want to take.
The Good:
- High in zinc, important for a healthy immune system.
- Contains significant amount of iron
- Good source of phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, selenium and b vitamins.
- Excellent source of complete proteins
- A high-protein diet based on lean red meat has been shown to help weight loss
The Bad:
- Increased risk of bowel cancer for those who eat a serving of red meat more then 2x a week.
- Everyday intake of red meat can increase the risk of Alzheimer's
- Excessive amounts of red meat can lead to a higher risk of osteoporosis due to an acid byproduct from digesting very large amounts of protein.
- Eating red meat every day can double the risk of Arthritis
- Red meat is high in saturated fat and cholesterol
- Eating one serving of red meat per day can double the risk of breast cancer.
So ladies there are your facts. I hope I helped those that were curious one way or another.
Stay Fab!
