U.S. Chart Roundup: Brace Yourselves—'Glee' Is A Hit Or Something

The main activity on the Billboard Hot 100 this week comes from the songs that appeared in the Season 2 premiere of Glee. The singing troupe of TV dorks see their following covers hit the chart: "Empire State Of Mind" (#21), "Telephone" (#23), "Billionaire" (#28) [Note: for the record, I fucking hate this song], "Listen" (#38) and "What I Did For Love" (#51).

Elsewhere, all does not seem lost just yet for Selena Gomez & The Scene's moody dance-pop jam "A Year Without Rain." After dropping from #35 to #65 last week, the single now jumps up to #53. Her same-named album debuts on the Top 200 album chart at #4. (Is it any good? I've only heard a few clips—seems decent enough?)

That brings us to Florence + The Machine, whose "Dog Days Are Over" sadly falls from #21—where it flew to after Flo's stellar MTV VMAs performance the other week—to #73. Over on the Top 200, FATM's Lungs has a less dramatic plunge from #14 to #28.

And we'll end with these two final notes—first up, Brandon Flowers' Flamingo, which debuted at #8 last week, drops to #30. I actually made it the whole way through this album twice. It's not bad. It's just...there.

And at least Christina Aguilera can be happy that she's finally #1 again somewhere. Her Bionic single "You Lost Me" has topped the Dance/Club Play Songs chart. Triumph!

Robyn's 'Body Talk Pt. 2' Becomes Her Highest-Charting Album In The U.S.

Robyn's Body Talk Pt. 2 had a much better debut (#41) on this week's Billboard Top 200 album chart than Pt. 1 did (#97) back in June. Chalk it up to her recent tour here with Kelis—and it's probably a good thing for the upcoming Pt. 3 that she's touring here in the States again in November.

Body Talk Pt. 2 has now become Robyn's highest-charting album in the States, a title that previously belonged to her 1997 debut Robyn Is Here (which peaked at #57, but ultimately went Platinum).

Sadly, Robyn's excellent jam "Hang With Me" was released this week in England and isn't performing as well as "Dancing On My Own" did there (the latter charted at #8 on the UK chart in June). Currently, "Hang With Me" is #92 on UK iTunes.

Over on the Hot 100 singles chart, Katy Perry is #1 for a second week with "Teenage Dream," while Adam Lambert climbs to a new high of #31 with "If I Had You."

Meanwhile, it's a big week for debuts: Selena Gomez & The Scene go in at #35 with "A Year Without Rain," Rihanna cracks the chart at #75 with "Only Girl (In The World)"—but expect it to make a huge leap next week since it went on sale this week at iTunes, where it's currently #1—and Florence + The Machine's "Dog Days Are Over" debuts at #93 (that one will jump up, too, as it's at #6 on iTunes after Flo's MTV VMAs performance).

Everybody Wants To Have Sex With Eminem, Maroon 5 And Sara Bareilles

It's a week of several big debuts on the Billboard Hot 100, pop chyldren, so let's just jump right in with Eminem and Rihanna. Each one has landed a #1 single this year so far, with "Not Afraid" and "Rude Boy," respectively. And now their collaboration "Love The Way You Lie" comes crashing in at #2, thanks to Eminem's Recovery being made available last week.

Recovery opened with 741,000 copies sold—the highest one-week amount of any album since AC/DC (hot) moved 784,000 copies of Black Ice in October 2008. (And check out my assessment of the 17 albums that have hit #1 in 2010 so far over on Idolator.)

Anyway, Selena Gomez & The Scene pop in at #24 with "Round & Round," making it the Disney teen's highest chart hit yet. (My spring jam "Naturally" peaked at #29). Maroon 5 debut at #44 with "Misery," a song that sounds like every other Maroon 5 single ever released. The music video is set to debut in a few hours, so hold on to your hats, kidz.

This brings us to piano pop broad Sara Bareilles, who debuts at #59 with "King Of Anything." Let's hope this one becomes a hit (it's pleasant enough), so she can shed her one-hit-wonder coat—you know, to become a two-hit-wonder. The "King Of Anything" video leaked this week and keeps getting yanked off the Internet, but you can watch it here.

Rounding out the debuts (and, yes, there are about 47 other Eminem songs that entered the Hot 100 that I can't be fucked to write about) this week is Adam Lambert's "If I Had You," which goes in at #94. If there is a Pop God up there in the universe overseeing all things right and just, this song will go just as far as "Whataya Want From Me" did. Because Max Martin needs more money.

Country singer Taylor Swift doesn’t forget her friends, especially not on their birthdays. Selena Gomez, who was celebrating her 17th birthday yesterday (July 22), got a huge flower arrangement from Taylor delivered right to studio where the birthday girl was rehearsing for “Wizards of Waverly Place”.

A Disney Channel spokesperson says, “Taylor contacted Disney Channel to make sure she could send it to the studio. It was so big two men had to carry it to the car!”

E! Online reports that Wizards of Waverly Place star Selena Gomez is playing matchmaker to Swift by hooking her up with Forever the Sickest Kids frontman Jonathan Cook.

Gomez, who appears on Forever the Sickest Kids' "Whoa Oh," set up introductions between the two connect via iChat, and Cook isn't complaining one bit.

"[Swift] is gorgeous," Cook, who calls Taylor his "celebrity crush," Cook gushes. "She is an amazing songwriter, and I can relate to her not only as a musician but also as a writer...Plus, she seems so down-to-earth, I always root for her as a fan!"

Emmy nominee Selena Gomez makes a fashionable stop at a Menchie's Frozen Yogurt shop in Hollywood on Wednesday, reportedly on a break from recording her debut album. Gomez's Disney show The Wizards of Waverly Place received a nod for outstanding children's program.

Now that she's bringing an end to her television career, Selena Gomez appears to have found something else to occupy her time: Crashing other people's proms.

People magazine reports that the Wizards of Waverly Place star and her BFF/Princess Protection Program co-star, Demi Lovato, made an uninvited, unannounced appearance at the Etobicoke Collegiate Institute prom in Toronto on Thursday night.

The prom-crashing incident occurred while Gomez and Lovato attended a dinner in honor of their movie at the Liberty Grand Entertainment Complex. Apparently bored with the festivities, Gomez ducked out of the dinner and did some exploring, eventually stumbling across the prom.

After sweet-talking a security guard into letting her in, the 16-year-old decided to cut a rug with a few of the female prom-goers.

"They were all dancing in a group and having fun," an attendee tells the magazine. "Selena was thrilled to see firsthand what a real prom is like and that her dress was much like the other girl's dresses."

Giddy with the thrill of the experience, Gomez went back to the dinner and retrieved her pal Lovato, and the two returned to the prom, partying until 11 p.m.—when, lamentably, security told them to take a hike.

"PPP peeps and I crashed a prom tonight and danced with a highschool!!," Gomez tweeted later on. "amazing!! I finally had prom!"

The song “Send It On” is part of Disney’s “Friends For Change: Project Green,” a multi-platform environmental initiative that invites kids to join together. Lainey Gossip reports that Gomez has split up with her rumored boyfriend, Twilight hunk Taylor Lautner. According to multiple sources, Gomez and Lautner called off their romance about a week ago. And to add insult to injury, Lautner reportedly blew off what would have been the couple's last get-together in Toronto, without so much as an apologetic text message.
