Health Fact...Uterine Fibroids...

Today I would like to bring up Uterine Fibroids and some small but important facts.  I discovered I had three tiny uterine fibroids about 3 years ago when I went for my routine GYN checkup.  When this was discovered all I could think was, "Will I be able to have kids?"  Well it turns out that in the majority of cases fibroids don't cause infertility.  My mom also had them in her 20's but when she started having children they disappeared.  It is not known how they develop but here are some facts below that will put you at ease.

  • Uterine Fibroids are the most common benign tumors among women
  • Present in 20% of women off all races of reproductive age
  • Present in 50% of women over 35
  • Usually don't cause infertility but can cause pain
If you suffer from severe cramps during your menstrual cycle or very heavy bleeding speak with your GYN as there is a possibility of fibroids.  From there your doctor can tell you the necessary steps to take.  Also make sure to go to your regular GYN checkups if you have fibroids as the doctor can monitor the size to see if they have stayed the same, grown or shrunk.  Once again it's less scarey then it sounds but it can be very painful for some.  Ladies just know that you are not alone as the majority of our population suffers from Uterine Fibroids.

Stay Fab!
